So you want to be a pirate? You have a big choice to make.
Blackbeard's
Crew:
If you are a history buff, you want to look into John Glass and his authentic
living history group, Blackbeard's Crew. They fight with swords, shoot guns,
recreate battles and are immersed in Hampton's pirate history. But as with
all good things there is a catch...authentic pirates have to dress completely
authentically, from the buckles on your shoes to your tricorn hat.

Polyester Pirates:
If you want to be a pirate just to have some fun,
this would be choice number two. The other larger group of pirates we
have at the Hampton Blackbeard Festival
are the "polyester pirates". These pirates address the legends
more than the historical accuracy of pirates in Hampton Roads. And man
can you have
fun with this. Polyester pirates can take many more liberties and be much
more comfortable with their dress and actions. They can work and play in
any area
of the festival outside the living history exhibits. For more information

Volunteers:
A
festival this size relies on the countless hours of work provided by volunteers.
We have many ways for you to become involved in the
Festival. From providing information to guests, sales of merchandise and refreshments,
to set up and breakdown. Every volunteer will receive an official 2007 Festival
t-shirt.
